- OMEGA AQ-6171 is a liquid water treatment additive that inhibits the growth of algae and slime forming bacteria in cooling towers, heat exchangers, water storage tanks and other industrial water systems. A methylene-bis-(thiocyanate) compound, the material is low to moderate in foaming, phosphate-free, and non-corrosive to most metals commonly used in recirculating water systems.
- Effective in systems ranging in pH from 6 to 10, OMEGA AQ-6171 is stable for long periods, is not decomposed by high temperatures, and is not lost from systems through evaporation. It can be used for microbiological control in a wide range of recirculating water systems where the treated water does not contact edible products. It may not be used on food contact surfaces or in potable water supplies.

|Dosage Range and Feed Methods||
OMEGA AQ-6171 is used to control algae and bacteria in recirculating commercial and industrial water cooling towers. An initial slug addition of 12.8 fluid ounces of OMEGA AQ-6171 per 1000 gallons of water is recommended. Repeat initial dosage until control is evident. Subsequent slug additions of 5.2 to 12.8 fluid ounces of OMEGA AQ-6171 per 1000 gallons of water should be employed every 1 to 3 days, or as needed. The frequency of addition depends upon the relative amount of bleedoff and the severity of the microbiological problem. Slug addition should be made in the hot well or collection basin of the cooling tower.
Solution Control: There is no titration procedure.
|Safety and Handling||
OMEGA AQ-6171 is an industrial water treatment material. Direct contact causes eye damage and irritation of skin. It is harmful or fatal if swallowed. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Wear goggles or face shield and rubber gloves when handling. Do not take internally. Avoid contaminating food products.
First Aid in Case of Contact: Immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. For eyes, call a physician. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
If swallowed, call a physician or Poison Control Center. Do not induce vomiting. Give large amounts of milk and/or water. Seek medical attention.
NOTE TO PHYSICIAN: Probable mucosal damage may contraindicate the use of gastric lavage.
