Environmentally Safe Removal of Metals from Wastewater with the WaterCare OMEGA C Series of Coagulants
January 16, 2015
If your wastewater system is accepting water from literally any industrial process from metal cleaning, acid pickling, phosphating, anodizing, electroplating, galvanizing, rotoclone, deburring, or polishing, there is a very good chance the wastewater solution must be treated for what is commonly called ‘heavy metals.’
Heavy metals are ionic species which are classified in a wastewater permit as regulated and a limit on their concentration in the water as discharged must be achieved. If this limit is exceeded, a violation of the permit exists and the ramifications are just plain ugly. A violation of the discharge permit could include fines and cease and desist orders.
Taking a look back over the past 20 years, the use of metal precipitants added to the wastewater, was a common practice. Moving the clock forward to the year 2012, and the use of metal precipitants creates issues of concern, including toxicity to the receiving waters and elevated BOD/COD concerns.
IN THE MARKETPLACE TODAY, METAL PRECIPITANTS ARE OVER-USED, OVER-PRICED, AND IN MANY CASES SIMPLY NOT NEEDED.
COVENTYA WaterCare has developed environmentally compliant coagulants. When applied to wastewater system, the coagulants will react and neutralize the metals of concern and provide discharge water which is non-toxic and environmentally compliant.
ALLOW WATERCARE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO THE OMEGA C SERIES OF COAGULANTS.
Traditionally aluminum and calcium based commodity chemicals were added at large dosages to overcome the suspension of heavy metals in wastewater. By volume and weight, if enough commodity chemistry was added, the metals of concern would eventually be precipitated. One problem exists, however, the volume of sludge created is very large.
The OMEGA C Series consists of 4 specific products. These mixtures of base aluminum and calcium ‘reacted coagulants’ are designed as ‘true inorganic polymers.’ By the structure and specific formula, the OMEGA C Series coagulants can meet your heavy metal removal requirements. By testing and evaluations, the right product can be selected to meet your specific requirements.
It is not uncommon for the dosage of the OMEGA C Series product to reduce existing chemical demand by 50% and allows for the complete elimination of heavy metal precipitant chemistry.
On a final note, take a step back, if your current wastewater program requires the use of metal precipitants and/or the use of excessive coagulants creating a large volume of sludge, contact COVENTYA WaterCare for the use of OMEGA C Series as an alternative approach.
